I don't see a general need for it. if you in your particular case feel it is a problem, then just do whatever you feel is best.
to me, paths (apart from journeyman) are more about knacks than talent options (except for the rare occasion where they give an entirely new talent that didn't exist before... and even then, the options on that new talent are probably where the best bits are to be found). I think the biggest reason they give you talent options is to make sure that you can qualify for scholar knacks regardless of what your starting point is.
