my GM made me use my D4 a lot for my purifier b/c he punished me for min/maxing (my friend's suggestion). I had a step 3 Charisma for the longest time until I beefed it through stat increases and then threadweaving. I think I ended up getting it to 2d6 at some point. :) Again though, nothing like rolling 37 on a D4. And I twisted my low CHR. I wasn't ugly, I was just socially retarded and quick to use my fists. :)
