Re: ED4 Talents and Progression
First thing right off is that I see Arrow Weaving at First Circle. And they thought the changes with Durability raised hell...

Re: ED4 Talents and Progression
I agree with most of the posts above. Weaving at first circle could raise some eyebrows, but It could be a good thing to give everyone weaving at 1st. The two biggest changes I see that I really like is Flame Arrow as a seventh circle discipline talent that adds directly to damage like crushing blow. That is a house rule I have used for sometime. The only downside is that it makes it really rough for the windling archers until 7th circle. The other change is Tiger spring as an optional talent. It now makes anticipate blow more useful. Before without an initiative enhancer it made getting the opportunity to use this talent against a meaningful opponent difficult.
I am also curios about the awareness talent. My group has always complained about the lack of such a talent. Once thieves got their silent walk to about rank 7 or so they became incredibly difficult to ever spot assuming they had the knack that allowed them to hide from sight as well as sound, forget about the high levels it becomes impossible after about rank 11 plus their special ability at 9th just adds to challenge.
What was the reasoning for making Stopping Aim an optional talent? This talent has become as synonymous with the archer as flame arrow in my opinion.
In all I really like what I see.

Re: ED4 Talents and Progression
OK, so I use the optional rule that ignores Discipline Talent requirements, so I don't really care about the Discipline Talent listings. With Flame Arrow moved to Seventh Circle, it's a damn good thing that Arrow Weaving is now First because otherwise the Archer would have to play for over a year before being able to do significant damage. I like that the Talent Options enable the Ranger/Legolas archetype without foisting it on everybody.

Re: ED4 Talents and Progression
Moving flame arrow to seventh puts it in line with crushing blow and down strike. Necessary I believe as they reworked the talent to work the same way as crushing blow. Damage wise until then they will be doing the same as the other martial types minus the aggressive attack. The big difference will be they can not get as many attacks at the low levels. Their advantage however, is the range.

Good eyes, you guys.
I'm still mulling some of the changes, but I do like the direction I'm seeing so far. I definitely want to see what Josh has for us this weekend.
(My 1st PC "Telarus" was an Elven Archer, so I kinda feel that Flame Arrow was a key talent in 1st Ed.. but if every Adept gets Threadweaving @ 1st I can see the changes working...)

Re: ED4 Talents and Progression
why don't all talents are not Classified by level (novice, journeyman, etc...) for all disciplines? It will be nice to quickly know their power and it'll be simplier for spending LP and for created new disciplines...
Another remark: why talent options are limited 1/circle? Multi-disciplines PC have more talents than a mono-discipline character. Maybe as an optional rule? The player 'll have the choice to spend his PL in more talents and to slow down his progression but mono-discipline character will be more Multi-purpose...
