I'm working on the plot for my game, and I am writing up some lost worlds. Strictly non-canon stuff, but I like to be thorough. At the risk of my players, who lurk here, figuring out where the campaign is going, I need to ask for help.
Can anyone tell me if there is a canon reference to when exactly Paradise, the Justinian homeworld, sealed its gate? I know it was during the first round of emperor wars, and after the Alecto were wiped out, but I can't pinpoint it.
Does anyone know what year the route from Aylon to Yathrib was lost? I could have sworn I've seen this, but it might not have been canon, and a lot of the old fan websites are gone.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me with these.

Thanks guys!
My take on the paradise gate is that the Justinians on the Paradise side saw the battles going against them and shut the gate themselves. From the language in Lords it sounds like the Justinians on Delphi and Midian were cut off, and because their motto is Loyalty unto Death, they took it in stride and regrouped. For that matter, it might have been a situation where the house decided to split and those left on Midian and Delphi were the rear-guard. That isn't clear. The time frame sounds right, it would not have been immediate, but they were definitely losing the war. So when they are down to their last fiefs on Delphi and Midian, with only the uncertain loyalty of the Hawkwoods to preserve the route to Paradise, they make the decision to preserve the main holdings of the house. It would have been after the last Alectos died, so the 10-20 year timeframe feels right.
Angelman, I knew it was somewhere in that time frame, thanks for the pinpoint. I agree, that looks right. The description in Priests indicates that the jumpgate was not only sealed but the coordinates were also somehow scrambled. Those wacky Sathraists. The Brothers were very popular, then they lost the Yathrib route, then they had the big falling out with the Patriarch, who wanted Mazdak in exchange for recognizing the order.
Thanks guys!

Re: Lost World Timeline Questions
Few items for consideration on the Paradise question.
1 - Last House Alecto on Midian was destroyed around 4560. (By the Li Halon, the Hazat, and the Decados)
2 - Last of House Gesar is eliminated on BS 4664. (BS & timeline) (By al-Malik, Decados and Cameton)
3 - Legions also notes that by the start of the 47th century the war was over and the 10 Royal Houses was reduced to 5. Slight contradiction, this can be taken as the Gesar were already reduced to a minor house.
4 - As far as I know we have never been able to pinpoint Paradises location in the Jumpweb.
Few options exist for how/why it was shut.
- Protect it from invasion by the other houses.
- Divide the House, allowing Justinian lands elsewhere to be seized without reinforcements from Paradise. (Sounds like a Decados strategy; however the greatest beneficiaries would have been the Li Halon and Hawkwood.)
From the sound of it you are proposing between 4560 and 4580 for the date the Paradise gate was shut. It would have been no later then the 4990's as possession of a world like Paradise would have constituted there existence as a Royal House.

Re: Lost World Timeline Questions
Yeah, I found the location in Hawkwood fiefs. House Justinian still has a continent on Delphi, which was one jump from their homeworld of Paradise. Good catch on the royal house contraction, I'll factor that in to my timeline. I'm writing up a totally non-canon pocket empire for my group to find. You gotta love this setting, it just lays out all the groundwork and lets the GM do whatever they want with it.

Re: Lost World Timeline Questions
I never read that line like that....... I guess it does say that it is a direct jump to Delphi...... *$*&^%$*%#$.... This creates another issue... Does/did Paradise's gate have two jumps or did the Justinian maintain fiefs 5 jumps away (Midian) from Delphi...
Query for those apparently more textually familiar with the source material then me. Was Swan's Way "home brewed" as a former Gesar holding, was that an implied thing, or was firmly stated someplace in early apocryphal I don't have access to???

Re: Lost World Timeline Questions
Swan's way as a Gesar world was in a non-canon fan-based publication, Chronicals of the Fading Suns. Likely to be superseded by canon material, but still very fun stuff, I am using it in my current campaign. It might still be available on the yahoo group? Not sure.
Paradise likely linked to Delphi and either Midian or Apshai. Leagueheim is another interesting choice - it was a major trade hub at one time, with many more jumproads than it has now.
