Yes that helps. But I have a question concerning the tree-is-alive-example. In the Players Guide it is mentioned, that imprints of subjects are hidden behind or within other magical objects.

A living tree counts as magical object in that case?

Yes, if you beat the target number for astral space, you see everything (unless it is obscured).

You are also able to tell the difference because imprints are "true to form". Rats look like rats, people like people. Mostly. A bit out of focus perhaps, and without colors. You couldn't tell if someone had blond or red hair, but you could tell if one person was two inches taller than the other.

A tree is a living object. You need an Excellent Result against the tree's Spell Defense (it's on the same page, same side, on the bottom).

Sorry Arma, it's the tree. The rule is the "masking object's Spell Defense" -- the tree is masking the archer.

I'd rule that because the tree is alive it has a completely active and opaque astral presence, so you can't see through it.

simply said, a tree is a living being as such it has a full astral imprinmt. so someone behind it would be hidden from astral sight.
