Li Halan — Princess of the Ice Pagoda:
Malignatius became home to some of the worst
excesses of the pre-conversion Li Halan court. On
this backwater world, with such a scattered and isolated
population, the Li Halan were free to indulge
their demonic appetites without concern for political
repercussions. Duchess Theodora (3146–3232) in
particular gained an evil reputation for her deeds on
Malignatius: In 3194, she released a bio-engineered
virus to wipe out most of the tuktuvak herds, buffalolike
animals whose fur was prized off-world. Tuktuvak
meat was also a staple of rural community diets. The
resulting famine among the common folk was dedicated
as a sacrifice to her dark deities — each death
by starvation or cannibalism sending power across
the void. Without outside aid or relief, Malignatius’s
population was devastated, reduced by two-fifths in
less than a generation.
