Scout should have 1 more rank in a talent option, he recommended Awareness which is a Scout Discipline Talent, so I'd take Melee Weapons at rank 1. Thief should have 1 more rank in a talent option, he recommended Stealthy Stride which is a Thief Discipline Talent, so I'd take Surprise Strike at rank 1. Then each of the caster Discipline should have Standard Matrix C at Rank 1. Just read the above threads. Other then a couple of wrong talents, and who can blame them, they have 4 editions bouncing around their heads. No need to rewrite the rules when the examples were bad.
The screw up on the example characters was all mine - I can take the credit.
This being said, I don't know where the distinction on talent ranks from discipline talents and talent options is coming from. Each was missing one talent rank and they should both already have talent options for First Circle (Missile Weapons and Melee Weapons). Am I missing something which will make me feel silly later on today?

Re: Pre-art draft feedback
Hi guys,
Still proofing here, but I like most of what I've read so far. I do have a question about Optional Rules, or apparent lack thereof.
In 3rd Edition they included a bunch of optional rules in the Combat section from previous editions: Initiative based movement, Max weapon damage, Min weapon damage, wounds that bleed, damage to a limb, damage to weapons and armour, cover density, fleeing from combat, weapon reach, grappling bigger opponents, etc.
There only seems to be two optional rules included in 4th Edition - Take the Initiative, and Long Fall (which was a normal rule in 3rd ed).
Why are all these optional rules missing? I'm not sure about others, but our group uses a lot of them (Wounds that bleed, Damage to Limbs, Min weapon damage, damage to weapons and armour, fleeing from combat, and weapon reach). I'm hoping your plan is to put them into the GM's Guide (which would make sense, since the GM decides which rules to use). It will be frustrating to have my shiny new 4th Ed Player's Guide, but still having to carry around the 3rd Ed version so I have these Optional Rules handy.

Re: Pre-art draft feedback
I'm about halfway through the book now and I'm confused by a couple of things.
1) Once you've bought a Talent Option, is the only distinction between it and a Discipline Talent that Discipline Talents count toward Circle Advancement under the default rules?
2) Was it really necessary to buff non-Versatility Talents by letting you spend Karma while simultaneously nerfing Versatility by causing Versatility Talents to be a whole tier more expensive? I know I never saw Versatility as being as much of a problem as a lot of other people, but both seems kinda harsh.
3) The Artisan Skills table should have asterisks for Artisan Skills that default to a template (Artist, Craftsman, or Entertainer) the way all Knowledge Skills default to the Knowledge Skill template on p. 223. The table should probably then be moved to p. 211.

Re: Pre-art draft feedback
So after 9 pages of suggestions in another thread about a potential new name for Direction Sense, FASA has chosen Direction Arrow? Wha-?
Four Disciplines will get Direction Arrow in 4th Ed: Archer, Scout, Thief and Wizard. I know under the description it says "different disciplines express this talent in different ways", but IMO calling it Direction Arrow really gives it a strong Archer flavour, which seems out of place in the other Disciplines.
Personally I would have stuck with Direction Sense as a name, but still included the different various ways Disciplines interact with the Talent in the description (Archers shoot arrows, Wizards have their glowing thread, Scouts maybe feel a wind stir and push them in the right direction, while Thieves spin a dagger on the ground and where it stops is the right direction).
