Cat
Common, domesticated house cats are found in almost all towns and cities of
Barsaive. They are often kept as pets by Namegivers of all races. Cats are virtually
harmless to Namegivers, but they are useful for keeping buildings free of mice and
rats.
A cat will not attack a Namegiver unless cornered, and even then it will only attack
until it has a chance to escape. Cats have an innate sense of astral space.
Cats are suitable as animal companions.

Brief Backstory:Nergae Hilldigger was born in the Dahnat, the slums near the great gates of Throal. Her parents and extended family died early of poverty related issues like alcohol and venereal disease and being shivved by the gangs and such. Nergae only has faint memories of them. She was taken in by their downstairs neighbor, a troll named Malak Wonjin. At first, he was using her as a front to disguise the fact that he had removed the ceiling of his apartment, which was the floor of Nergae's family's. After a while of having enough space to stand up straight in his home, he started training the young Nergae to guard his food shop. She began enticing the local stray cats to live in their home/shopfront to kill vermin in the food stores, but eventually she began training a few of the kittens as pets. She also learned how to climb so that she could reach her bed, in a loft that was a bit of the old second floor that Malak never tore down.
With the opening of the Great Gates to the outside world, suddenly wealthy trading houses began buying up property in the Dahnat. Malak resisted selling his home, which he and Nergae had eventually managed to scrape enough to buy from their landlord. For a while, the wealthy buyers were happy enough to leave the best food shop around open for their employees to use, but they kept pushing for him to sell. Even with Nergae needing money to train as an Adept, Malak did not want to sell, until Nergae took him on a day trip out of the great gates to see the sky. When he realized that the outside really had no ceiling, he was sold. They sold their storefront home for enough for Malak to retire if he wanted, but he instead plans to construct an eatery somewhere Outside with ceilings high enough even for Obsidimen to stand up in. He still had plenty to pay for Nergae's training and to outfit her for her first adventure.
