There's optional rules and rules expansions, but no new system per se (beyond the few modifications we did in ED3 core).

Cool. I'm working on a version for a minitures style game using the airships, and might incorporate waterborne vessels and troop combat. Assuming, of course, I can get a core mechanic that I like.
There is no overkill.
