Hi
Among other things, I'll be running a SWED game at convention, so if you want to try out Earthdawn or Savage Worlds, feel free to come along for some Fast Furious Fantasy!
The Savage Prelude to War
Its mere decades since the five hundred year Scourge ravaged Barsaive, and the province still shows the scars of the insidious Horrors and their predations. Rising up above the common folk are gifted Adepts, fighting for freedom and building their Legend in a world that’s been through hell, and still faces war and worse. Half a millennia ago the Theran Empire ruled the land and they’re back in awe-inspiring flying fortresses to claim what’s theirs. Who’s going to stop them? You?

Gaz, may I suggest if you run the game again, that you adjust the spread of disciplines? As the Weaponsmith I had little to do Talent-wise beyond buffing weapons, and there was little opportunity for that. The Weaponsmith comes into their own if magical treasure turns up or in campaign play. Maybe a Cavalryman, Beastmaster or Scout may have had more opportunity to show off the system.
That said the story was enjoyable, particularly discussing which volunteer regiment to join!

Howdy!
I'll take this opportunity to point out that there were seven characters for six players - one of which was a Beastmaster - so the opportunity was there! Most of the characters are fairly straightforward to give n00bs a chance to join in - that said its hard to know what to include - one player gave me the feedback that there was too much information about the world and he'd have liked less!
The first time I ran the game the players went of piste and ended up fighting a Horror, with the Baldon being crucial at ensuring they had the right tools for the job and delivering the killing blow. You can never tell how its likely to go, players being players and all!
Thanks for the comments, always appreciated.

Fair point, it must be difficult to know what balance to strike. We did have a good balance though, and I don't recall you swamping people with world information. I think that might have been me, adding the extra detail <embarrassed grin>!
From what you told me, it does seem a shame that the Savage worlds conversion has adopted spell points for the magician disciplines as I feel it loses some of the essential uniqueness of Earthdawn Magic. Have they completely dropped multiple round casting times? How does it do linking to magic items and other true patterns?

If you fancy using the Hellfrost system for magic and tying in Siphoning to being Horror marked or wounded by Astral energy etc., that would work. In future supplements there may be an alternate magic system that is "pointless" so to speak, but I'm just speculating there, don't take my word for it!
Magic items require you to have the Thread Weaving Edge, and attempts to weave are based on Spirit in limit, and maximum number of threads is tied to Rank.
Off the top of my head, I can't remember anything with a multiple round casting time from the normal lists, rituals and enchantments and that sort of thing are a different ball game. Speaking for me personally, I'm glad Adepts can cast shizzle every round, spending every other one Thread Weaving was a bit dull as a player.
