"Seems like it." I'll sigh quietly. "Well, looks like I'm at his mercy in this instance. I understand what he's trying to do, but I've never been one for flashy clothing in the first place....I prefer to go unnoticed." I'll sip at my water again. "I think might need something a bit stronger."

Garsevan glances around. Not seeing Gudrun, he flags down the serving maid and asks for two brandies. "Not that Gudrun's said anything about what anybody else drinks," he explains, "but there's something about her that throws a wet blanket on the occasion."

"I would assume that she wouldn't like is drinking when we should be setting our minds to the task. By and large, I would agree with this in the same way that I would much rather be spending my the time I have left here gathering information than shopping. However, since it appears I am bound for one, I would like a little of the other. Not too much mind you - we still have work to do." I'll accept the brandy and take a tentative sip, ostensibly trying not to let the alcohol go to my head.

"Yeah. Speaking of which. You keep going back to the idea of information gathering. We should at the very least be out hitting the taverns and seeing what stories our fellow adepts have to tell, instead of drinking here where we're not going to hear anything useful." Garsevan knocks back about half his brandy. "Gudrun took Kolbeinn with her, said she was going to -- "

And the aforementioned Gudrun and Kolbeinn arrive, coming in with Gudrun in the lead, her usual disapproving frown firmly in place, Kolbeinn tagging along behind her with an armload of books and scroll cases, having to hurry to keep up with her and looking worried.

"Invoke a Passion and up it jumps," Garsevan says. He tosses off the rest of his brandy and sets the cup on a nearby table. Gudrun goes by without a glance in your direction and heads upstairs. Kolbeinn pauses, tries to indicate something with a gesture but he's got an armload of documents, then follows Gudrun upstairs.

I'll stand up and glance at Garsevan. "You're right, stories from other adepts would be useful. Seems like Gudrun has collected some information herself though..." Setting the brandy down without touching it further - it seems like work is calling - I'll follow Gudrun upstairs. Perhaps it would be best to see what all those scrolls and books were about before deciding what to do with the rest of the evening.

When you reach the next floor, you do not see Gudrun, but you do see Kolbeinn, struggling to get his door open and get into his room without dropping the documents he's brought. You don't get more than two steps away from the stairs before he fails, and lets out an exasperated sigh as the books and scroll cases tumble across the hallway floor.

"Kolbeinn..." I'll ask quietly. "...what's going on? Research?" I'll walk towards him. Seems like Gudrun works fast, whatever she's doing. That's good, I just wish she'd keep other people in the loop.

"Research. Um, yes." Kolbeinn is down on his knees, carefully inspecting the dropped items for damage as he picks them back up. "What we could bring with us, well, what we could carry, um, what I could carry, without a box or a porter." He's rambling a little and very distracted. His hair is a bit mussed, and he generally looks tired and harassed.

I'll reach down and pick up one of the dropped books myself, inspecting it before handing it back to him. "Where's Gudrun?"

"Right here," she says from directly behind you. Kolbeinn drops the book he was holding, with a startled yelp.
