"Oh...Well, that's a relief anyway. I really wasn't looking forward to dealing with another war. So...we both drop our threads, and then we're just partners, right? You'll still stay with me? I don't want to lose a friend."

"Right...thanks Gudrun. Unless there's anything else I'm needed for here, I'll go and catch up with those too and make sure everything is going according to plan." I'll fold my arms as I think about just how much area 'across the city' covers. "I don't suppose you could tell me exactly where they are..."

I'll glance at Torana, in all likelihood she's a little weathered by the experience. Timothy and she have been companions long enough that there really shouldn't be any problem here, but I'll give the little creature a cursory glare anyway. "You two won't have any problems, right?"

Torana: "If I drop my thread, I lose my mount," Timothy says, sounding a bit irked. "But Name-givers make lousy mounts. Hard to control. I have to think about this."

Isaac: Gudrun stares at you for just a second as if you missed something. "My spirit is giving me regular reports on their location," she says, trying to sound patient but coming across more as irritated and patronizing. "If you go to their last known location, you should be able to find them with relative ease. Or you could wait for them to return." As far as 'across the city' goes, the Floating City is fairly large as Earthdawn cities go, and there's no direct route to anywhere. You have to figure on a zig zag course from island to island, across the canals, because of the irregular placement of bridges and walkways. Taking a canalboat would be faster, but more expensive.

I'll give Gudrun an even look. "I don't recall Shaliko and I going that far the last time we looked for a ship, so I'm just going to see what they're doing. Could you tell me their last known location, please?" I don't want to irritate Gudrun too much, but with the way she is it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. "Besides, I don't like waiting around when I could be doing something." I'll try to give her a little smile, trying to sound as polite as I can. I'll head out and try to find the two of them once she gives me the location - depending on just how much more expensive a canal boat is, I'll take that.

"So...you're an Adept, or can all of your kind do what you do? And...if you need a mount, we can get you one. What kind would you want? A wolf, a zoak, something else? I don't imagine you'd want it to be all that big...That would probably just be inconvenient. I'm sure this city has a beast market...Do you want to go?"

"Printer's Island," Gudrun says, not taking her eyes off Timothy, "heading north-west toward the docks at the edge of the city. Motion is better than idleness." You're not sure if that last, Isaac, was directed entirely to you. It may have also been a suggestion to Timothy and Torana to get on with it. It'll cost you three silver for a canal boat to Printer's Island, and that's the cheap rate.

"We could go look at the beast market," Timothy says. He yanks the silk strand out of your scalp, ouch. You feel the connection from him to you fall away. His next words are a bit muffled as he chews on the silk. "Size isn't a problem once it's tamed."

"Printer's Island." I repeat. "Got it." I tip my hat to both Gudrun and Torana and then head out. Since I wouldn't know exactly where to find Printer's island on foot anyway, I'll just take the canal boat - cheap rate if possible.

I'll drop my thread to him as well. "Gudrun...do you know where the beast market is here? We're gonna go find another mount for Timothy."

Isaac: You pay three silver to a cheerful canal boater, who poles his tiny skiff briskly through the traffic, past several islands, and drops you off at Printer's Island. Along the way, you have a couple of alarming moments, including the one where your pilot shoots his skiff out of a side passage into a main canal across the bow of a cargo barge. The barge sailors shout in alarm, then swear at you vigorously. Your pilot shrugs, says "That was close" as if it didn't really concern him, and zips onward. Printer's Island gets its name, rather obviously, from the primary industry. There's lines up out in front of several of the shops, and tied at various points up the sides of the buildings, draped with parchment sheets newly printed and drying. You make your way around to the northwest, through the crowd of apprentices hauling bundles of parchment, putting up newly printed pages, taking down dry sheets, and generally trying to get their work done, and, on the far side of the island, spot Mekhitar and Shaliko at the gangway of a large, fancy riverboat. A ship's officer, resplendent in far too much silk and jewelry and ornamentation, is tapping her foot and looking pleased at Mekhitar's performance, as he winds up a bouncy dance number with a flourish and a sustained chord.

Torana: Gudrun raises an eyebrow at you. "You are a Beastmaster. You have been to the Floating City before. You do not know where the beastmarket is?" She shakes her head, does not wait for an answer, and heads out the door and down the hallway toward the stairs. "Come. The sooner you sort out your difficulty, the sooner we may return to business."
