Philosopher's Stones

Postby Holz » Wed Sep 03, 2014 9:48 pm

We all heard and seen the wonders (and disasters) a Philosopher Stone can do. I'd like to post a few ideas and check some of yours:

- Classic: Turns ordinary emtal into Gold/Silver
- Traveller: Teleports user to wherever he wishes
- Vladimir's Ship Stone: Ship jumps without the need of a gate (ship lost after his death)
- God-like: User becomes a "super being" for a short span (wyrd/vitality fuel?)
- Shadow-bender: User travels the shadows. He may enter and exit at his will (madness is known to come along)
- Past seeker: While holding the stone, user watches the past (GM decision when) with no idea of what's happening in the present

Just a few ideas. Cooking my noodles for more! :D

I might have dreamt it, but isn't there reference to a healing philosopher's stone somewhere in FS canon?

Healing is a great one.

Be able to visit someone in their dreams.

Be able to scry a target like a crystal ball.

Truth teller - those within its influence must tell the truth (but can avoid answerin with tactful language)

Nullifies psychic powers/Theurgy/both within range, creating a zone of "fixed reality".
"The crazy ol' Vorox"

Something witty, pithy and observant ought to go here.

Oh well.

We did a campaign based on a Philosopher Stone's effect where if you stood on a an ageing stone alter and looked through the eyelet of a disk nothing happened, you went about your life and the horrible dangerous drama and met your end, where you would return to awareness standing on the stone alter looking through the eyelet of the disk and nothing would happen, you'd go about your life and the horrible dangerous dramas within it, until you sorted out the cosmic imbalance that the Eye of the Universe felt needed to be corrected.

The first time through the eye the players kept running across all of these people who were ragingly insane or who knew things about them and what they were going to do. The second time through the eye the people were vastly different and slowly it dawned on them that they weren't the only ones who had looked through the eye, that there were other people who kept dying and trying different ways to solve the problem without success. The final time through the eye an inquisitor who had been viciously persecuting the PCs through and had actually killed one of them in their last iteration, was standing at the Stone Alter when they awoke from their deaths wearing casual clothing and carrying food and wine for them. He apologized for what he had done to them and admitted that he had imprisoned or murdered them many times before they even reached the Eye of the Universe but that nothing he did to stop them seemed to fix the problem so he was going to try doing nothing at all and see if the Pancreator would release him from his torment.
