Session 5
So Svana finally met her match last night; giant sabertooth bears, that hunt in packs! Basically, these things were patterned after Gracklefox (minus the poison and with less vigor and dexterity). After the group parted ways with Rasputina (she graciously offered to walk them out......) the air got suddenly colder and the group was ambushed by a pack of giants bears.....Like bears the size of a Volswagen Microbuses (Holy crap!). This fight went horrible, Svana was almost in wound penalties, and Babette took some very serious hits and Sir Robert's energy shield quit working. After quite a few rounds of dealing with these things and not taking them down Svana decided to get the attention of the bears and get them to chase her back to Rasputina's. She managed to get the attention of all 4 bears (by critting a Extrovert+Impress roll) and got them to chase her, giving the group a two round head start back to the Azahara. She was able to make it back to Rasputina's and duck into the tunnel and hide out from the bears. She also discovered 2 things 1) the door originally locked from the OUTSIDE and 2) Rasputina was gone....
Eventually Svana makes it back to the Azahara and tells the group she needs to go back to Bjork to talk to her father about their next point of exploration....and secretly to ask him about Rasputina, because at this point she's starting to get a bad feeling.
Drake puts the Azahara in orbit over Frost while the group decides what to do. Drake sees a huge snowstorm on the radar over the entire Torden continent and refuses to take Svana back. She agrees to go with them to the next mark on their map, which is in the Helvette Mountains, while on the way down the Azahar's sensors begin to give some unusual readings.
In the mountains the group makes it to a place called "The Valley of the Oracle", in this valley the group finds of all things...a gargoyle. Sir Joseph and Svana are the first two people to get close. There is also a settlement in the valley (the gargoyle sits in the center) and the group is approached by a strange man wearing faded robes and what looks like a motarboard hat with a party hat on top. He introduces himself as "Nestor" the village's Law Thane AND Head of Tourism...because evidently in this village people "wear many hats"
. He offers to introduce the group to the War Thane, who is also the High Priest of the town, but while the group is speaking with Nestor, Sir Joseph interupts a one armed, mumbling, meditating man near the statue.....it so happens to be the War Thane, who is none to pleased by it, or by the group as a whole. He is able to tell that they have been in Rasputina's presence and mutters something about "sensing hunger" on the group....Svana finally puts two and two together and blurts out that the group is responsible for releasing Rasputina. The group is quickly arrested and sentenced to execution the following afternoon in order to appease the spirits of Famine.
