The inquisitor has been travelling into a fief some 200 miles from the Cathedral intermittently, following stories of an Antimonist that thus far haven't held much weight. There were some questionable books found hidden and the inquisitor torched the village they were hidden in to make sure any others weren't ;left hidden. Last week the Inquisitor was visited by a small girl who claimed she had evidence of terrible sins in the fief. Her evidence was a skinning knife shoved through the Inquisitor's armor and into his liver with her demonic strength. After the possessed girl was obliterated by fusion gun fire and the inquisitor was given medical care, what happens next? The inquisitor is in bed for a week or longer but he has a large well-armed and well-skilled retinue that can carry out his orders. The fief in question is the size of the state of Vermont but with isolated villages separated by long dirt roads. With an inconclusive investigation there could be a single cagey antimonist or the entire fief could be consumed in darkness. The region isn't politically aligned with the Church and there will be repercussions for the inquisition going off-leash, especially without the direct supervision of an inquisitor.
How would you hunt a witch?

Re: This is how you hunt a witch
If the inquisitor was stabbed by the witch-child, I would definitelly play on him being cursed in some way; his wounds don't heal properly and he starts hearing voices or whatever. (If he's an NPC, the inquisitor would probably keep this to himself so as to not arouse his buddies' suspicions). Perhaps you can give the inquisitor a sort of telepathic connect to the main badguy akin to Mina Harker's in Dracula? Every now and again, the inquisitor falls into a half-trance and sees/senses the bad-boss somehow, gaining more and more Insight into the affair? Finally, his cohort starts getting suspicious about their boss' knowledge and instinct about the bad-boss and tensions rise. You could even have the Inquisitor and his men come into conflict, which is barely resolved when the Inquisitor concinve his buddies that he's alright; only when the time comes for the final confrontation with the big-baddie-boss-dude is the Inquisitor possessed fully, the child-witch's spirit form ripping itself out of the Inquisitor's wounds like a mock birth or something.
