Question about SW: ED

Does the SW edition have spell matrices?

SW isn't that big on charcter growth, at least not when you talk about going 'up' in ability. For example, the dice range goes from d4 to d12 (possibly with a +1 and +1 at the d12 range). So how much growth is there in SW: ED, how does a character get to improve his abilities?

Thanks all

Hi Thane,

Not spell matrices, as such. The rules use the power point system from SW for spellcasting. Spell matrices are "simulated" by being the "power points" used for spellcasting. As the character increases in status (Heroic, Legendary, etc.), their pool improves also. There are also some Adept Edges that provide increases.

Otherwise, characters improve their abilities in the same way as standard SW characters. It's probably fair to say that character progression is faster than in core Earthdawn -- you can run through a low- to high-level campaign in a shorter time in EDSW.

Kind regards, James

Where in the EDSW books does it have rules for the increases in Spell Threads beyond the starting 10 (power points) at Novice, Seasoned, Veteran, Heroic and Legendary?

The only ways I've seen to increase them are Enhanced Matrix and this Adept Edge is only available once at the Seasoned Rank.

Power Points (SWDE: page 38) would allow a character to gain an additional 5 power points, but is listed as Unavailable in the EDSW PG page 34.
