[ED4] Mount, horse, animals, creature speed

When I saw that in new GMG Cheetah fastest land animal (from 0 to 103 km/h in three seconds) have same speed as horse (which is much to low already) it was a bit too much. I already posted it some time ago:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1420
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1414
but because nothing was changed I did it myself.

So for all those that dont like to be misled and know that dog can run much faster than human.
Here are animals speed, all yards/round are lower about 15% (for game mechanics sake as some animals are not as fast as the others) than maximum speed (shown in brackets) found on many different websites. With Standard Action you double the speed shown below (y/r only).

Ape 30 y/r (40 km/h)
Bat 12 y/r (16 km/h)
Bear 26/41 y/r (33 km/h brown bear), (grizzly 54 km/h)
Boar 13 y/r (pig 17 km/h)
Cat 35 y/r (46 km/h)
Crakbill 54 y/r (speed taken of an ostrich 70 km/h much bigger and heavier than Ed crakbill)
Cheetah 92 y/r (112-120 km/h) from 0 to 103 km/h in three seconds
Crocodile 10/12(swimming) y/r (13 km , swim at speeds of up to 15 km/h)
Dog 37 y/r (German shepperd/pitbull 48 km/h)
Eagle 38/185 y/r average horizontal/diving speed 50/240 km/h
Elephant 30 y/r (up to 40 km/h)
Horse 37 y/r (48 km/h, race horses 46 y/r 60 km/h and more)
Leopard 46 y/r (60 km/h)
Lion male-female 50-62 y/r (lionesses can reach speeds of 81 km/h)
Monkey 42 y/r (fastest monkey run 55 km/h)
Rhinoceros 32 y/r (42km/h)
Snake 24 y/r (black mamba slithering 32 km/h)
Snow badger 23 y/r (badger 30km/h)
Thundra Beast 32 y/r (speed same as Rhinoceros 42km/h which are bigger and heavier than ED Thundra Beast)
Tiger 49 y/r (up to 64km/h)
Wolf 49 y/r (64 km/h)

average human running (already doubled) speed 28-36 y/r (19-24 km) without equimpment/armor, Ed running speed with Eq+armor 24 y/r seems ok.

Here is my formula, as example lets take horse 48 km/h
[48 000 -15%] * 1.0936 (1 meter to yards) / 1200 (600 rounds in an hour, and /2 to get „walking” speed) = 37.18 y/r

So now I challenge you all to discuss on other creatures speed. Lets make compedium worth our favorite game.

Cheetahs are unable to sustain that speed for over 2 minutes. Yes, it can cover 1.5-2 Km in that time frame, but is then exhausted. Hmm, even with the "Dash" ability this seems a bit slow compared to the Wikipedia numbers... maybe because it allows an attack after Dashing?

Compare this to Humans, who "persistence hunt" at speeds around 4-8 miles per hour [25 to 35 km (16 to 22 mi) in 2-5 hours - Wikipedia]. We can keep this up for 4+ hours because we sweat to exchange heat with the environment, and quadrupeds can't, they much pant / exchange heat with the breath. So, I'd rather see Sprint/Dash ranks than a base Speed increase for quadruped animals.

Speed y/r in Ed is used mostly in encounters, traveling speed is something different and there was a table for that. The y/r is used during fight/chase and you want to move as fast as you can during it. So far only 1 creature have Dash ability. Horsemen were feared because they were so much faster than footman.

Ah, ok. I was approaching movement rates from the other direction in another thread.

Movement rates are not intended to be a simulation of real-world movement. They give an approximation of comparative speeds for combat/round by round situations, with an eye more toward utility and playability.

Mucking about with speed and distance is done in games all the time. As an example, if the space marines from Warhammer 40k were to use legitimate ranges for their weapons, you couldn't play on a tabletop, you would need a gymnasium (or larger).

About mounts, since the cavalrymen has access to flying mounts, how come he doesn't have Wind Catcher in his option talents?

Edit : Oh, I forgot, can you mount a Wyvern? How about a creature heavy transformed by horrors, like a Unicorn ? And finally, how come legend speak of Dragon riders?

Razan, when you get the chance, could you possibly link the source sites for your values? I'd like to do some research and run some comparative numbers myself, and I want to make sure I know which numbers you're looking at.
