[ED4] Hex map, scale and Sprint

ED4 seems to have dropped the whole concept of the Hex map except for a brief side note explaining to cut down every distance references by a factor of two. (1 Hex = 2 yards)

So, basically, nothing really changes. Except for the Sprint talent where in 3rd ed. it improved the movement rate of the character by one per rank (meaning one hex per rank and so 2 yards per rank). And then in 4th ed, the text seems to just have been cut and pasted but in this context it doesn't mean Hexes. But only one yard per rank (thus 1 Hex per 2 ranks if using a map).

Is it intentionnal or could it it be just a mistake by borrowing the text of the former edition?

Movement rate is in yards, also Great Leap and Gliding Stride talents use yards. So all is ok.

For me it was too easy to jump 8 yards with talent Great Leap in Ed3, you needed only to roll 4. There was no challenge to jump wide chasm.

Maybe I was not clear.

Sprint seems half as effective as it was in ED3. Because Movement Rate is in Hexes in ED3 and it is in yards in ED4.

That means for exemple that Sprint rank 5 add 10 yards to movement rate in ED3 but only 5 in ED4. Is it intentionnal?

Maybe I was not clear, also. :P

Great Leap, Gliding Stride, Movement Rate are all in yards now so i think it was intentionnal.

As with many other talents they still let you do things that common man can't, but are scaled down a bit.

Yeah, if you look at Gliding Stride (for example), it has the same scale-back as Sprint. In ED3, the result of the Gliding Stride test was the number of hexes the character could move. In ED4, that result is the number of yards. Same thing with Great Leap -- hexes in ED3, yards in ED4.

So all of the movement talents have been scaled back the same way.
