Sourcebooks referenced in the Revised Player guide

Hello, I'm a total newcomer to Earthdawn. We'd like to begin a game soon so waiting for 4th ed was not an option, if tempting. I'm slowly learning my way into the Revised Edition Player's Guide and I like it so far but a thing troubles me. The book refers several times to others such "The Adept’s Way" or "Magic: A Manual of Mystic Secrets" that are 1th edition sourcebooks apparently. Can I really seamlessly integrate books from different editions? Which set of books would be considered the minimum to run a game (my players and I like details!)?
Thanks

Currently you will find that same information in the ED3 Player's Companion, Rotor. ED3R was moving back towards ED1 book structures, which is why those references are there. For ED4, we're all unsure of content, but if you want detail, you should be good by adding the Player's Companion. The only GM's Guide is the ED3 GM's Guide, which is only available in PDF (being out of print).

The ED4 books are not going to be referencing older material; we want the books to be usable without the need for digging up previously published stuff.
