"Dynamic" PDFs

Does anyone know if there are companies out there making, for lack of a better term, "dynamic" PDFs? Nearly everyone offers ebook copies of games these days, but does any company produce ebooks that are specifically designed to take advantage of the electronic format? Maybe an ebook that comes in the form of an app suite that you can run on an iPad or similar device?

There was a company back in the early 2000s that made an online gaming program that actually incorporated ED's ruleset. Why couldn't that sort of virtual tabletop be incorporated into the electronic version of the game? It could have things like interactive maps, random encounter generators, and so forth. Is there any company doing this right now? I know that there are a lot of generalized game aid apps out there, but I'm just wondering if anyone has made efforts to incorporate that functionality into their ebook products.

I don't know if it's what you expected, but you've got Nova Praxis which is specially design for the electronic format.

As an example of what can be done with this, there is a Pathfinder SRD app for android that contains all the rules from all the books. It is completely searchable both via following via the book the content is in, and through the search function.
