Discipline Update of The Wanderer's Way and The Way of War

In The Way of War and in The Wanderer's Way there were two new Disciplines, the Zhan Shi and the Mountebank. Is it possible to update them to ED3 or EDR? Is something planned with this two Disciplines or will they never again be mentioned?

How is it with updating them by myself? I know, at home in my private game I can do with them as I like. But I wonder how is it with copyright? I assume that all old ED rights know belong to Fasagames. So if I would update these two Disciplines and put them on my homepage or submit them to forums and mark them as "my creation" would that be against copyright? Could I update them and post them online with a text like this:

General question to the masses.

Why does every little twist on a class or job have to be turned into a new discipline? Mountebank? Snake Oil salesman as a discipline? Wouldn't an Illusionist or Thief or any other Namegiver regardless if they are even an Adept or not be perfectly capable of selling colored water or cheap booze containing snake heads for an extra kick, ripping off the masses? Why a discipline? Thanks ED2!

Let's add the Cheesemaster while we are at it.

Hiya,

Correctly or incorrectly, it was a fairly common practice in ED1 and ED2 for fans to make new Disciplines where perceived gaps occurred. Specialists cover a lot of ground in this space, and fill the gaps nicely. In EDC (with the optional Discipline Design rules) and in ED3/EDR, it's easier to swap talents between pools, add new talents, or tweak existing Disciplines, so perhaps the need to outright make new Disciplines is lessened.

In answer to the original question, we have no current plans to do anything with the Mountebanc or Zhan Shi for Earthdawn Revised. If you want to update them as a fan project, by all means do so, with the usual caveats being to please reference the original books and highlight changes, rather than outright rip the text and republish it. Copyright notices and attributions are welcomed.

Take kaer, James

Oh, man, I loved the discipline design system from ED Classic!

Did that system get ported over in either of the 3rd edition compendium books? Since I have so much stuff from previous editions, I never got around to getting those books because the only thing I really felt like I needed out of them was the advanced circle progressions. If not, is it coming back for Revised Edition?

The Alternative Discipline Design mechanics for EDC were used to reshape the approach to Disciplines in ED3, essentially becoming the "core" design for all Disciplines. As EDR is core ED3, it's in there too. There's a LOT more flexibility in Disciplines in ED3/EDR compared to earlier editions.

Thanks for your answer.
So I will soon do a 'pimped for ED3' Mountebank 'cause Imo there are not enough social Disciplines and I was lucky to stumble upon the Mountebank in a friends ED stuff.

Zhan Shi update isn't really necessary, you could use Cathay's Monk Discipline in its place from the Cathay Player's Guide, and save yourself the work.

The Montebank is a jumble. In some ways, he feels like a wannabe Alchemist, in addition to an Illusionist and Thief. Maybe focusing more on Alchemy could serve to give the Discipline more an identity.

The Discipline Design process for ED3 was more streamlined. The ADM was included as a base mechanic. However, another big change is more standardization in the Discipline Abilities across the board.

don't knock the Cheesemaster discipline, it is the most powerful of all disciplines in that it exists in every game no matter which reality the game exists within.
