Hi James,
how do you cope with the movement ? I.e. do you allow ýour players to move in blind sighted position when engaged in melee?

Hiya,
I'll reply to that one later. At work, atm, so can't always get to Forum posts straight away, sorry (unless it's short responses).
Anyone else, please feel free to share your experiences in this space!
Take kaer, James

Re: Faster Combat
Characters can rotate their facing, usually keeping an eye on up to three opponents in the front. The side and rear facings are where the Blindside positions are at. So if the character cannot rotate their facing to see them, they get the Blindside bonus then. Then again, Blindside is probably the worst status in Earthdawn. It really should just be Harried = 4 opponents, which is enough of a gang up bonus in and of itself. Since Blindside does care about facing, its an added complication the game does not need really (Even if you use the rotate facing rule, it essentially becomes Flanking at that point). Also Blindside + Harried is a -4 Physical Defense which is pretty unfair really. Outside of the battlemap, you really can't tell if someone is blindsided unless the character sneaking up on them from behind is silent walking, they are distracted by an air sailor, they are in fact blinded, etc.

Re: Faster Combat
Thanks for your thoughts on this, i also think that it does not make sense, to let someone move behind the back of someone in melee. Probably the facing was implemented to give the possibility for sneak attacks from thief's.
The ED book's lacks here some movement examples, and the sneak /hide in shadows options shown on an printed picture battle map.
