Challenges . . .

Hey all . . .
So I'm curious if a Demiwrath (Second Circle, 1 per 2 PC's) is a "fair boss fight" against a group of First Circle Adepts who have not spent any Legend Points yet.
It seems do-able, save if I only use the "Cold Touch" ability against 1 at a time instead of everyone at any moment.
Is this fair?

you could try and run a quick combat on your own and get an idea of just how difficult it might be.

While true, I'd rather delegate my time to more meaningful activities than running an encounter 3 or more times to get a median result.
I was hoping to gleam some knowledge from others who have tried a "Circle +1 (1 per 2)" encounter and whom have gained insight as to how it works out.

HI:

This seems like a lame cop-out but in ED not all encounters are "winnable" or "scaled" (unlike in other systems). Sometime's a Namegiver's gotta run away!

At lower circles, you might want to be a bit careful what you throw against your players. Especially if they're (somewhat) new at the game, and you don't want them to lose their characters.
During the campaign, you learn what their strengths and weaknesses are, and can, for example, throw in a strong melee opponent if they're very strong at melee combat.

And as Ladrillon states, in ED, it's very possible to lose your character if you're not careful. You might want to imprint that on your players as well.

[1 per 2 PCs] is roughly equivalent to "+1 Circle", so this challenge is 2 circles above a group of 1st Circle Adepts. [Group] is roughly equivalent to "+2 Circles", so you're still within the range of possibily for the players 'defeating' the demiwraith.

Make it an individual demiwraith with unique weaknesses tied to it's background. Run it as an actual dead person and not a faceless ghost, or give it an allergy to some substance (classically silver, etc, etc). Drop hints at the players during the encounter (via an npc, or old books or whatever). Basically, think of another way to "win" besides dealing X damage before Y rounds go by....
