How does this spell work? You make a spellcasting test to summon the spirit. Once summoned they track down the person. The spirit automatically passes any tracking test they are required to make as long as you have a personal item of the target. If you don't have a personal item can the spirit even track the target? If yes then what do you roll as it does not have a tracking skill? Do you roll raw perception? Are tracks actually necessary? Can it track by scent alone? If so this seems incrediblly powerfull. As an example, you are looking for someone who has been kidnapped in Bartertown. There are no visible tracks to follow, but the party has a scarf belonging to the victim. Can the spirit, in the middle of a city of thousands, still track the person by scent? Even if there is a remote chance then it happens since the spirit automatically passes the test. Now you have pretty much nerfed dirrection arrow and direction sense. Would it not be better to give the spirit a tracking skill based off the casters willpower/willforce with an additional bonus of 3-5 if you have a personal item. This would still be pretty good, but not overpowered.

As I understand the wording, it cannot track unless you have a personal item. Also note, that this is 5th circle spell it's meant to be powerfull.
As for how it's doing the actual tracking - look at tracking talent: it's magic. It makes tracks appear. You can track a flying Windling with this.
