Hiyas!
Why the Precolumbian (mostly Mayan & all them "-tec" cultures; no
incaesque inspired stuff, however, as far as I can see)
look of
Earthdawn? I haven't found any other explanation for this except "
it looks kwl."
Thanks!
L

because the entire 4th, 5th, 6th world set up is based on the mayan calendar, and this is a guess. it is never really explained.
but man does it look cool.

Check this out:

Also, one of the Human Tribes is modeled after a South American warrior society that used "bird shaped" headdresses. I also believe that the largest "precolumbian-style" pyramidal structures in Barsaive (for example, on the cover of the Partlainth boxed set) were Theran constructions... which I suppose is meant to tie into the Shadowrun Aztechnology Corp (who have control over recovered Theran/"Atlantean" magic and artifacts and are based out of South America). From what I can tell, the authors may have been insinuating that the Theran upper class fled to South America when Thera/Santorini blew up (which ties into another of the Atlantis myths).
