Basic pronunciation question

Hiyas:

I've always wondered if there's a right way to pronounce kaer?

Is it akin to "KAH-err"? Or more like "KERR" (silent "a")?

Thanks!
L

Not sure, but I pronounce it Kerr, Kair or Care (all sound the same (ish)).

The Welsh language has the word Caer which means Fortress, which is where I always imagined the word Kaer comes from, but that could just be a coincidence. Caer is pronounced Kay-yer.

I pronounce it as Flowswithdrek noted last: Kay-yer

There's no official pronunciation in the books, however.

I've pronounced it as Flowswithdrek does. The word also seems to be related to 'cairn' (from the same root).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chambered_cairn

Check out the pictures of the entrances, interior spaces, and layered construction. Now imagine that each rock in that "pile" has a ward to distract/trap a horror's attention. Then, in the center of the chamber - a warded magical lift, hidden stairway, etc leading to further habitation space (like the city of Derinkuyu: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derinkuyu ).

I like to think this was the stock Theran 'template' sold to communities, maybe scaled up sometimes depending on the magic and tech the community could afford.

Bottom line, as long as you and your players are having fun, you're doing it right. :)
