This may have been answered on the old forms, but...
Page 148 of the Gamemaster's Guide reads 'a notation showing "2 x
Claws" indicates the creature may make up to 2 separate Claw attacks'.
Does that mean that if the creature had two actions and "2 X Claws"
they could then make four claw attacks in one round?
Thanx
Claw Attacks

Re: Claw Attacks
Thanks arma. That makes sense and is how I had been doing it for years. But, it does make me ask why, for example, the Cheetah has only one action but 2 X Claws.

Re: Claw Attacks
Not quite sure.
It may be an oversight, or it may serve to indicate that it can't attack with all claws at the same time (as you'd reason it has a claw on every leg, so if it somehow got 4 attacks, it could attack with all its claws).
I may just be talking BS here, though, and the 2x represents it attacks with both claws at the same time to achieve that damage step. And/or it has something to do with the different "bite and hold" etc. behavioral types.
Our resident statsmonger could clear that up, I think.

Re: Claw Attacks
It probably has 2 actions at some point in design, but was changed to 1 action and then the 2 x claws was not removed after that changed. Probably during the consideration step on whether to make it a First Circle or Second Circle creature.

Re: Claw Attacks
it could mean that if you disable one of its claws (eg the wither limb spell) it is still dangerus, but it cant atack efectivly with the hind claws.
more likly had 2 attacks earlyer in development

Yeah, It's because cheetah has two paws he can use for attack So, I think, it's about options to attack it has - left or right paw.

Re: Claw Attacks
Also meaning if it were enchanted/other to have more than 1 Action it could still only get 2 damage tests.
But more interestingly, cheetahs seem to pounce with both claws at high speeds (into the rear leg tendons or flanks), which set them up for a Bite-based Grapple take-down.

It say the bite is just Str. Once on the ground they bite and twist the neck at unnatural angles to suffocate.
It also seems that damage is a big risk to avoid, and they'd rather use their speed to flee direct confrontation (but that can be worked around via Beastmaster magic, etc).
