shattered pattern (tyrlaan stats) SPOILERS

Hi all, i was readying the "OldbutGold" adventure "shattered pattern" and i looked at Tyrlaan, the uber evul NPC mastermind.

DONT READ UNDER IF YOU DONT HAVE PLAYED THIS ADVENTURE:

under the "thread" area, i read he has

1) 1 thread woven to a spell matrix staff (4 ranks)
2) 1 thread woven to his crystal ringlet armor (3 ranks)
3) 1 thread woven to a carafhad dagger (1 rank) (boosting nethermancy)
4,5) 2 thread woven to his group pattern (via his necklace) (5 ranks) 1 boosting on Nethermancy and 1 boosting Spellcasting
6,7,8) 3 thread woven to each "hideout" pattern (3 ranks)

the 3 last threads are descripted as "each one boosting ALL his 3 defenses by 3 ranks each"
its seems he can have all the 3 defs boosted by 3 when he is in each of his 3 hideouts, but i dont find it possible.
in 3rd ed i am assuming he can have a thread woven to his "hideout" pattern, but that will boost 1 ability for each thread woven (so if he has 1 x rank 3 thread he can have 1 of his defenses boosted by 3, or he can have all boosted even if he isnt actually standing there ? i mean, it could be 1xphidef, 1xsocdef, 1xspelldef that is 1 thread for 1 place for 1 ability and get the boost from all 3 even if he isnt there ?)

there is an updated 3rd ed conversion for this guy ?
what are the other stuff that are changed ?
also, he has the staff with 2 x 4 level matrix in his staff, but from the spells he has "memorized" it seems he is lacking 2 of his possible spellmatrix (he has 4 listed, they should be, assuming he took them all 4 spell matrix + 2 spell matrix (4lv) in his staff.

I can't look the ED1 versions up at the moment, but:

There's an updated version in EDClassic's Adventure Compendium (available as PDF).

Now, there's several things that work differently between ED1 and EDC, for example matrix objects and the number of matrices in them (EDC is like ED3 there: just one), and EDC gives him a Rank 7 matrix object.

Spells in ED1 may not exactly be the ones he has in Matrices, or the list may not be absolute?
In the EDC version, in any case, the spells reference which matrix they are in (and gives you only those in the list, because otherwise, that would just be re-printing the spell list).

Pattern Items: Take a look at the upper right paragraph on p. 119 PG. It's easily overlooked the way it's nestled in-between the table and example box. (TL;DR: He must be there to get the bonus, but a Major Pattern Item gives bonuses to 3 things with just the one thread.)

will look at the EDC classic and ... ZOMG nice stuff at that page.. will rush to my PG copy
also, but isnt a "rule" question
how can he still alive alfter basically at least 500 years ?
he was already a nethermancer when the scourge hit barsaive, so he could had at least 50 years at that time
plus 400 (scourge) and at least 100 (after scourge)
i have missed something ?

found (minor pattern item 1 ability, major pattern item, 3 abilities, core pattern items 5 abilities)
returning to a place, i cant find a specific detail on the ties between a place and a namegiver in the paragraph at page 119PG
i have to consider the ties as for the normal "items" rules ?
(so i can have my namegiver tied to a place as it is a "Minor, Major or Core" item(place) depending on the ties i have to that place ?)

bought the EDC classic on pdf and notices many changes that up tyrlaan to the third ed.
the only thing i have to check is the fact he now has 2 threads on each location, and each thread pump 1 ability
i have to assume that he has minor pattern items for all the 3 lairs, right ? (readying the famous page 119 and double checking your answer)

make them all major pattern items then have one Rank Three thread attached that adds +3 to all the Defenses at each of the lairs. The only thing that will change is his Social Defense at those locations 10 [13] P. Note that it would actually be easier to have three defensive items add +3 Physical Defense/Spell Defense/Social Defense and +1 Rank to Avoid Blow/Resist Taunt/Steel Thought at all times in Third Edition, but it is much more thematic this way.

In the 1st ed write up he was 12th by the coming of the scourge. I figured he might have gained one more circle before hitting old age. Possibly granted as a boon from one of the horrors he later killed.

EDIT: seems the EDC version nerfed him back to 11th circle.
