Stealthy Stride & Attacks

I ran my first ED4 combat last night. Somehow (as usual), the players came up with combinations that I didn't expect.

One question that came up was:

The party is in a cavern, dimly lit, 10' high ceiling, facing 6 enemies. Two PCs use the Stealthy Stride Talent to hide. One rolls a 27, the other a 12. The enemy's Perception roll is 8. So, the PCs are not noticed by the enemy. Then one throws a dagger at the enemy, hitting and doing damage. The other throws a bola, doing damage and entangling another enemy.

Is Stealthy Stride still in effect, since they've attacked the enemy outright. Or can the enemy notice the PCs now that they've acted overtly?

How is this supposed to work?

I would argue that they could still have a chance to stay hidden, giving the enemies a (massive) bonus to perception checks to find them. And they won't be making just one check, either; they'll keep looking. And each progressive attack would pile on more bonuses.

Players want to be ninjas attacking from the dark. Let them, but prevent any abuse. They might not remember ambush that turned into a normal fight, but they probably will remember that one time they ganked a guy from the dhadows.

Make sure the enemies fan out and search, send for reinforcements, or both. Or just flee deeper into the cavern/building/whatever where they team up with more people.

Also PG p.267 "A character who has detected an illusion can help others overcome its effects. He
can use his understanding to convince others of the nature of the illusion, granting
them a +5 bonus to their Sensing tests when actively working with them to demonstrate
its nature. This bonus is cumulative, the more people that see through an illusion,
the less power it has on other observers."

Thanks for the responses. It's given me a lot of food for thought. I think I'm getting the idea. Part of it is that I need to remember to apply situational bonuses to hide rolls. And to add penalties when the opponents keep searching for this wannabe ninja.

Seems like someone with Stealthy Stride should have an easier time of hiding that someone who doesn't have it? Could they just use Stealthy Stride after their attack to re-hide (with modifiers, of course)? It's a simple action. As opposed to someone without Stealthy Stride who'd have to use their movement to sneak into hiding, or wait until the next round.

Does that make sense?

If you want to let your ninja thieves hide again, feel free to through in some environmental options like smoke, brush or a garbage pit. If they find a clever way to use it give them several steps to their test, but let them know the target number is high so there's lots of tension. You do want your player characters to become legends...

Dex step is the base difficulty if they are hiding. See suprise rules.

Stealthy Stride talent is an Illusion, to work you need to be stealthy, attacking someone (depending on situation) is not very stealthy. But there will be so many situations, like throwing dagger from shadows, that will be problematic.
