One of the gamemaster characters in Nations of Barsaive, Azim Keel, is a ghareez. A sub-race of windling.
Does anyone know where I can find more information about this sub-race?
An old first edition book perhaps?

Try the Namegivers of Barsaive books (for EDC or ED3) or Denizens of Barsaive Volume One (for ED1) -- specifically the section "How Windlings View The Theran Empire."

There are some mentions in The Theran Empire sourcebook, along with Prelude To War. The best description is in the Sky Point & Vivane box set (Book 1; in The Different Races In Thera section, pp. 8-11). All for ED1.
