Durability is now a completely free ability that increases with Circle rating, it's mechanics are called out in "Starting Abilities" in the Character Creation chapter, and not in the Talents chapter. In the "Weaving Threads to Pattern Items" section of the 4e rules it does state you can threadweave to improve your Durability Rating, but it doesn't describe what that does explicitly. It does say, "For other abilities, each Thread Rank increases the value of the ability by one."
So, going off of this assumption - a 3rd Circle Swordsmaster with a thread item that grants +3 Durability (rank 3 thread), would have a total modifier of (base)Durability 7, +3 = 10. They would then add 30 (10*3rd Circle = 30) to both Death and Unconsciousness Ratings from those base ratings determined by Toughness. Then add +3 (Circle) to the Death Rating.
Wondering if that's right tho....

Re: Fouth Edition and Durability
This boost in everyone's heath ratings will do a lot to settle the debate over Strain.
Re: Fouth Edition and Durability
This has been covered previously, though is buried in a thread somewhere: improving Durability through threads increases the effective rank. Durability X is always X; Swordmaster's always have Durability 7, regardless of threads.
If you have more than one Durability, use whatever combination will give the most benefit.
For example, Scout 5/Warrior 2 - They would use Durability for their Warrior Durability (7) for their first two Circles, the, their Scout Durability (5) for their next three Circles. If they gained a Warrior Circle, they would start using Warrior Durability for that Circle as well.
If the same character attached a thread to Durability, it enters into a grey area for each group to figure. They can default to the highest Circle, be assigned to a specific Durability, or mix and match/float to whatever will give the character the most benefit. Assigning to the highest Circle is the simplest and will generall give the best benefit - it is the default assumption. There are edge cases where it will not provide the most benefit (e.g. Illusionist/Swordmaster), which leads to confusing explanations.

Re: Fouth Edition and Durability
Thanks Panda,
My information comes from previous editions. I appreciative any insight on the fourth edition rules. My initial question was just on the legend cost for increasing durability and Telarus_KSC answered that.

Ah, though that had already been clarified. Thanks Panda!
