Clarion Call Clarification

Would you guys be able to provide more light on the Clarion Call Spell?
The way I see it, it is kind of a ''Jedi Mind Trick'' Spell but what can you and can't do with this spell?

Let's say I need to squeeze some information out of someone, can that spell be used to have this character to simply tell the truth?

I'd like to know more about how you use this spell, cause so far, my gamemaster has been telling me ''You can't do this with Clarion Call'', every time I tried using the spell.

I believe to some extent, you can even have someone attack is own party members but with penalties to the results?

Paraphrased: The magician makes an Effect Test and compares it against each target’s Social Defense. On an Average Result, the target acts according to the voice’s suggestions, so long as the action is not obviously harmful to others; on an Excellent Result, the target can be convinced to take actions that are obviously harmful to others, but this first allows a Disbelief Test to shake the spell. The target will not harm himself under any circumstances; suggestions to do so immediately end the spell’s effect on him.

So, yeah: "Tell Elrond what you know of the Blood Queen's personal defenses" and "Where have you hidden the kidnapped girl" and "Who are you working for?" should all be reasonable (Average result) requests, as well as simply, "Answer truthfully any questions Gandalf poses to you ."

Not sure why your GM would say otherwise.

I think the issue lies with my GM's understanding of harmful. I guess he understands it as the general meaning of harmful instead of something being physically harmful. If I would use Clarion Call to ''force'' a character about revealing secrets or simply telling the truth, it would be harmful, as in : not in the best interest of this character or the party he represents.

It would be harmful for them; that my party gain access to this information. See what I mean?

That sort of make the spell useless for me because, from this point of view, what would be considered harmless?
