It "cares" about an attempt to harm a member of the group because of the blood magic oath you swore to create the True Pattern for the group. Break the oath, there is no longer a True Pattern to draw on.

There isn't any "intent" when determining whether a bonus applies or not. Thread magic is all about interactions and relationships. Is what you are doing something that is an interaction with the group? Then you get the bonus
