PC p. 176 says that the physical armor increases by the "absord damage rank" which sounds misleading. Does it improve thrice as much as the "increase" powers (just rank) or really much more than anything else (rank + CHA)?

Rank means just the Rank of the power (Talent, skill, etc), while Step refers to the Attribute + Rank. So in the above case, it would just be the Rank of the Talent, not the Step.

What Panda says is correct. However, the description should say "...adds the questor's Questor Rank to his Physical Armor." Technically, there is no Absorb Damage Rank, which is probably where the confusion lies.
