Hello all,
I was wondering something. Imagine you have a third circle human adept. He has all his optional talent slots filled and raises his versatility to rank one to learn another optional talent from his own discipline from his trainer. Later that adept reaches circle 4 and gets another optional talent slot. Can the talent learned through versatility be 'transferred' to that slot, effectively freeing up the versatility talent slot?

Hiya,
Versatility cannot be used to learn talents from one's own Discipline (check the second sentence of the Versatility talent description in the ED3 or EDR PG).

Umm, yes he can actually. ED3 PG page 85: "An adept cannot use Versatility to learn talents available to his own Discipline as Discipline talents, but can learn talents available to his Discipline as Talent Options."

Re: Versatility slots "freeing up"
It's a sentence that isn't well-phrased.
That doesn't meant he learns them "as" Talent Options (i.e. becomes a new Talent Option slot). It means he can learn talents from other Disciplines that match talents in his Talent Option pool.
For example, if the adept has Avoid Blow in his Talent Pool, but hasn't yet learned it, he can use Versatility to learn Avoid Blow from another Discipline that has Avoid Blow.
If the adept later learns Avoid Blow from his own Discipline, using one of his Talent Option slots, then technically the GM could allow "replacing" the Versatility-learned version and freeing up a Versatility slot. Otherwise the Adept has Avoid Blow as both a Versatility AND a standard talent. Which is somewhat redundant.
In this respect, Versatility acts like an extra pool of Talent Options (with some special constraints on access, and so on).
One thing to watch is the adept who learns a talent with Versatility early paying a cheaper Legend Point cost, then picks it up as a Talent Option later when the LP cost is higher, and gains the benefit of swapping over the Versatility talent to a Talent Option. You might want to consider "squaring up" the Legend Point cost to convert from Versatility to a Talent Option as part of the price of doing so.

Mystical adept could technically make a knack that would unweave his own talents.
