Quick question - would Mynbruje, the passion of truth, also be the passion of learning and scholarship?

That makes sense. Of course, there could be avenues of study with any Passion (architecture and engineering with Upandal, for example). But Lochost is the passion of the scientific method.

I would think a methodological approach to something falls under Erendis, a desire to find new discoveries comes from Lochost, and a reverence for what is currently considered true is due to Mynbruje. The three combined would drive scientific discovery by pushing for an efficient approach to building on past knowledge to uncover new frontiers.

The loss of Erendis could mean scholars just aren't quite as good as they once were with sticking to rigorous and repeatable testing, instead losing themselves in a slavish attitude toward "The Process" or not thoroughly documenting their methods thus creating tons of rework and half-finished experiments.

Either would mean stagnation and a lack of progress in Earthdawn science and new magic.

Um, more seriously, though -- I think, if you're looking for something like that, it would depend a lot on the GM's view of the Passions. I could see a strong case for Mynbruje. Upandal actually comes to my mind first -- that kind of learning as the architecture of civilization. Noting that in this kind of time period, really devoting yourself to university life is a totally dilettante move, Astendar has a solid claim.

Or, and I think this would be my ruling... the Passions are Passions. Rational intellect is something completely different.
