#1 The spell's Effect Test is created and established by the magician.
He sets the parameters of the spell, imbuing it with his lifeforce from strain through Willforce. Now the spell uses those parameters for its duration. The target makes the Effect Test after he makes his Damage Test. Armor applies unless the attack is Armor-Defeating, reducing the damage from both the primary blade and the magical double blade.
As Welt stated, the spellcaster does not make the Effect Test, but the controller of the Blade Fury actually swinging the sword. Unless the magician is using Blade Fury on a weapon he is attacking with, he cannot use his Karma on spell Effect Tests ability to help the warrior deal more damage for example. It also explicitly states the the character using the weapon makes the doubled magical blade's damage test as an Effect Test, so the magician doesn't roll for the Effect Test. Essentially target's Effect Test is an issue of control. Like for example I cast Recovery on you as my Nethermancer character Garthan. It uses the parameters of my Willforce +15 (Which is an ungodly Willforce 13 +7 +15= 35 or just 22), but as the target of the spell actually recovering damage, you make the spell Effect Test. If I cast it on myself, I can use my Karma on spell Effect Tests, since I am actively controlling the effect of the spell. Also its a spell Effect Test for damage, so the Warrior cannot use his Karma on close combat Damage Tests for the Blade Fury, as its a different type of test. Nor could he use Crushing Blow since it cannot substitute for the spell Effect Test, just normal Damage Tests such as the primary strike.
Still it would be fairly nasty primary strike of Crushing Blow 8 + 7 Strength + Thread Broadsword 11 = 26 + 2 Karma for sword and board or Crushing Blow 8 + 7 Strength + 17 Thread Pole-axe =32 + 2 Karma for those relying on Avoid Blow/Parry to survive and followed up by Effect Step 27. So uh...don't let that hit you. Just death for most characters at Eighth Circle there (Average 67 damage - armor twice if they are lucky, but real luck would be avoiding that). The scariest thing is that Blade Fury applies to each every attack the Warrior makes with the blade, so works with second attack, momentum attack skill, air dance secondary attack. Even worse on a t'skrang's tail weapon, since he could use it for swift kick and his extra racial tail attack ability (although it would be -2 to each Damage and Effect Test made in the round though, effectively -4 damage per attack, another reason for that target makes the Effect Test wording).
