generally its not worth it to advance in that manner. Leaves you pool talents in the dust (especially Durability), and also ignores thread weaving and serious upgrades starting at Fourth Circle for most characters. There are some pool talents you can get away with not upgrading for a while. For example, my Seventh Circle Nethermancer has Spell Matrix 7, Enhanced Matrix 7, Spell Matrix 3, Spell Matrix 2, Spell Matrix 1. Generally speaking, the Spell Matrix Rank 1 is reserved for a First Circle no thread spell such as Spirit Grip or Spirit Dart. The Spell Matrix Rank 2 usually held Zhong Smacks the Hand or Shield Mist, but seems to be outdated now that I have Spirit Dodge. Rank 3 usually has Death's Head or used to have Pain, also outdated now that I have Constrict Heart. As a character decision to save legend points, it worked out okay, as the matrices that see the most use are my enhanced for switching spells, and my Rank 7 spell matrix usually has Constrict Heart. But this decision, has now handcuffed me in a way, as I struggle to have powerful spells at my command in my high rank matrices. So nerfing your pool talents may seem cool, but in the end it just tends to bite you later.
