Some shields and helmets have deflection bonuses that increase the difficulty of getting an armour defeating hit.
No problem with that.
They obviously apply to Physical Defence but what about magical defence ?
I take it that they would not apply to Social Defence, unless especially noted as such.

Take a look at "Deflection Bonus" on page 254 of the ED3 book. A shield has two modifiers -- the first modifies physical defense, the second spell defense. Helmets have a flat rating -- but if the armor grants a mystic armor bonus it also affects spell defense.
