Hi,
I really think that Tapatalk, an app for smart phones that lets you go to various online forums, would be a great way to tie in the ED community on the go. I use the app for about 4 communities, including EN World. It goes a long way to making online forums more usable and friendly when viewing from a smaller screen.

Check it out and see if you could integrate it into your site/forums. It may take some work, especially if the phpBB forums are not 100% compatible from the get go.
