Re: Damage Shift Blood Magic

I doubt that that death magic always ends badly, in fact it would be a wonder if it does so most of the time. There has to be some perception that it's not certain unavoidable doom or else people wouldn't do it. The Therans apparently make use of it, and they strike me as neither suicidal nor stupid...

Re: Damage Shift Blood Magic

Whether something is good or bad is meaningless out side of a social context, because Earthdawn's metaphyscis are indifferent to good or evil. Casting raw magic is dangerous and risky regardless of whether you're doing it for a good cause or a bad one. Also regardless of whether you're casting a ben...

Re: Damage Shift Blood Magic

Yeah the book says that but it doesn't explain how it happens, or why it's any different from the normal blood magic that adepts use on a regular basis. It makes it a bit hard to take it seriously when it just says it does this thing but not the how or the why. That's pretty much leaving it complete...

Re: Damage Shift Blood Magic

Why would it be a bad idea? If the horror's sealed away, then it's sealed away, no different than if the magician casting the spell had had enough HP to pay for the cost of the ritual themselves. There are other examples where paying blood points for someone else would be beneficial and even heroic....

Re: Damage Shift Blood Magic

That's from the 3rd Edition Gamemaster's Companion. I think it's pretty flavourful that you can power blood magic rituals using someone else's life force, I like it both as a thing villains can do to unwilling people to show how depraved and amoral they are, and also something that heroes can volunt...

Damage Shift Blood Magic

So, what exactly stops you from using this in combat? The victim doesn't have to be willing, nor do they have to be touched, they just have to be nearby, which they are if you're trading blows. If you beat their spell defence with your Thread Weaving test, which is eminently doable for a fair number...

Re: Seeking some feedback on a possible ED4 change

You can already use thread weaving to transfer the strain from attempting to Name a spell to another character, I don't see why you couldn't do the same to also transfer the LP cost. In fact, I would imagine that the standard procedure when hiring a magician to Name a spell upon you is to let them a...

Re: New update -- Creatures!

Lys, thanks for that. Is that from the 3rd Edition GMG? What page? Earthdawn 3rd Edition, Gamemaster's Guide, Page 98, right below the Legend Award Table. Granted, since Legend Award ratings are given as a Circle this provides quite a bit of flexibility with respect to how many LP to award. A group...

Re: New update -- Creatures!

Telarus_KSC, there are five main sources of Legend Points: Conflict, Magical Treasures, Individual Deeds, Roleplaying, and Achieving Adventure Goal. While most of these are based off player circle exactly like you say, Legend Awards from Conflict are explicitly based off the opponent's Legend Award ...

Re: Let's Talk About Forge

I liked the ED3 rules for Forge Weapon/Forge Armor because of the limits to how much a weapon could be forged, especially with the first rank of Thread Weapons/Armor usually giving a "fully forged" damage/armor value. This ensured that the best weapons and best armor around were (almost) ...
