Re: Earthdawn Quick-Start Preview

I haven't finished reading yet, but agree with the above. I like insta-killing the npc madmen idea, but have it immediately convert them to hostile Cadaver Men, or is that too much of a threat? Whatever attack the Beguiler uses on the madmen has to be a legitimate attack to be used against the play...

Re: Earthdawn Quick-Start Preview

The masks are very thematic, very cool. I definitely would want the characters to be tempted to put them on. They're would need to provide some bonus or incentive, likrly communicated to the players through Nivek or Xaolete. I personally would make the Beguiler really deadly, even in his weakened s...

Re: [ED4] Journeyman conversion

For Journeyman I would keep the choice of Defence up to the player, as it is in 3rd Edition and simply follow the above pattern; so if your player chose +1 Social Defence at 2nd Circle, when he reaches 6th Circle his Social Defence bonus will now be +2 and then +3 at 8th Circle. Note that Swordmast...

Re: Magicians Casting Buffs On Teammates `From Behind'

I've never liked the idea of static vision arcs when simulating combat in an RPG. A round is 6 seconds, and I'm expected to believe that a character is casting quick glances all over in that time? Considering the focus grabbing effect of having a sword swung at you, perhaps I'm being unreasonable, b...

Re: Applying Penalties

One way to think of it is the test results are modified before you roll by changing what you roll, but it is a bit confusing the way it's worded. Regardless, you have two options. If a modifier is to be applied, either change the Step number before the roll or change the result of the roll. Both res...

Re: Disbelieving Illusions

Thinking through this, something akin to what The Undying has written. If the players or PC's have no reason to suspect an illusion, the GM could roll their Per (or other stat) against the Sensing Difficulty, then tell them, "Hey, that spell hurt, but something was off about it." Introduce...

Re: Weaving Threads to Pattern Items

The Test Knowledge is the Question, isn't it? and the Research Knowledge is the Answer. And sometimes you can come across the answer (research) before you find out what the question (test knowledge) is Which threw me for a while Playing around with the order of things, I just realized that you coul...
