Re: 4th Edition Reviews?

To touch briefly back on the original reason for this thread... I do find 4e more "revolutionary" than any of the earlier Editions. I run a game that has characters built in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and as long as people stick with the edition they started with, we haven't had any problems. When...

Re: Avoid Blow

Generally speaking, I totally assume you have to decide if you're going to Parry or Avoid a blow before damage is rolled. ...With that said, as I've mentioned here and there, I tend to play by post. I'm in some games that do that, so every time a character who has a defensive skill gets hit, the GM ...

Re: [ED4] Mount, horse, animals, creature speed

I don't think it breaks anything -- after all, things have been working pretty well under the older paradigm for over 20 years. As has been demonstrated on these boards, questions come up that haven't occurred to anybody in the past. Not to be trouble, but... Cavalryman is one of the 'core' Discipl...

I don't think kneeling is the same as being knelt in front of -- the Nethermancer kneels in front of the target to give them the aspect of, you know, a menacing tyrant, which is necessary to bind the correct kind of spirit into them. I don't think that kind of spirit would bind itself to someone who...

Re: [ED4] Terror

I think the main difference there is how close you can stay to the fight. If you actually have to try to escape, then if you can't shake it in two rounds, you're officially out of the fight, since three rounds running away means three rounds running back and that's six rounds away... If you can run ...

Re: [ED4] Terror

I don't know, Rags -- if "Actions" were capitalized, I'd agree, but the book also frequently uses the word action in the non-capitalized, general `something you do' sense, and this reads to me more like that. I think the difference is "common sense". If you declare an Attack hopi...

Re: [ED4] Terror

On the one hand, my reading would match Saryakan's note that I don't think the penalty would apply to your Willpower test to resist -- that doesn't feel like an "Action Test" to me... and if this is all you can do when the penalty exceeds your Willpower Step, then you must be able to do it...

Re: ED4: Wilderness Survival (by any means necessary)

We used to like Dual Survival -- but sure, they actually are good base to start thinking about this. It's a little hard to say given that they have to compress several days down to around 40 minutes of show, but think about how much they actually *get done* in one day. Does that feel like sixteen ho...

Re: ED4: Wilderness Survival (by any means necessary)

Much like movement in a Combat Round, a lot of this is abstracted. It's not assuming eight intensive hours of trying to survive followed by eight hours of loafing around twiddling your thumbs followed by eight hours of sleep -- it's two hours of intensive trying to survive followed by getting a bit ...

Cathayan Discipline-Unique Talents and Karma

So... this question just came up in a game I'm in. The specific question is this: Daughters of Heaven get Embrace of the Phoenix as a Discipline Talent, of course. Embrace of the Phoneix is marked, "Karma: Yes", which traditionally means that if you learn it through, say, Versatility, then...
