Re: jumping
Ah, been meaning to get back to this. You can just use great leap from the principle of it, but the problem for defaulting is that defaulting normally applies a result level modifier, and that can't really applied to rolls without difficulty numbers. So the question is what to use. Maybe apply initi...

Re: Pattern Item Question
Maybe the entirety of his wardrobe is a pattern item, with a favourite in the collection being sufficient to represent the whole.
Do note, though, that the example works "backwards". Trying to find an item from the knowledge.

Re: Named Spell vs enchanting
I know i would need to make an enchanting test, but am not sure how to set the EDN. I imagine it should be based on the spell being used but can't find any guidelines anywhere in the enchanting section of the PC. It's quick and dirty, really: Spell Defense of the resulting item. For that, however, ...

Re: Stacking Armour Buffs from DIfferent Sources
We dropped the Rule of Three from 3rd because it messed with abilities too much. Basically, stacking bonuses is what you do to get by starting at Journeyman Level, and it was a part of Discipline design to allow such stacking bonuses. A couple of talents and a magic item meant all other ways of buff...

Re: Avoid Blow v's Parry
Magic Bonuses are another part of the consideration, more so for weapons actually than for shields. If you give a Size 7 threaded weapon another bonus to Parry... well. The DB for shields is actually based on the following formula: armor divided by two, rounded down, plus initiative penalty (footman...

Re: Do Meditate + Circle well being stack?
Yeah, everything else in healing pretty much stacks, as it all adds to Recovery Tests (which is one of the reasons the low-Circle healing talents don't also add in, the other being that they usually allow the test to be taken under special circumstances and that in itself is a boon).

Re: Avoid Blow v's Parry
We had it as an optional rule in the ED Classic edition, but that turned out to confuse people more than it helped them simply make a choice to do it one way or the other. Especially because some parts of the rules always required modifying the step (such as with the rank bonuses, and also spells wh...

Re: Avoid Blow v's Parry
Why do errata have to be published as v3.5? I have the errata for 3rd Ed and this ain't mentioned. Revisions are OK as long as they add not just takeaway. There's no 3.5 ED3R is just a new layout and book format, otherwise it is ED3 with errata added (which we'd do in regular intervals for the PDFs...

Re: Avoid Blow v's Parry
The reason being? Mostly that it's too big of a bonus in the early circles (the thought in balancing it was more in not having the option of Second Weapon) and that it's not balanced well with shields (and parry really started out to be all about shields, in first version ADM). Yeah read that, but ...
