Re: T'skrang Fire-Engines on Boats: some questions
I think the secrets lie with both the construction and the operation. The reason they are kept secrets is because the fire engine is a gift to the t’skrang from the Passion Upandal and to give the Passion’s secrets to a non t’skrang would be akin to treason of the worst kind. The gift of the fire en...

Re: T'skrang Fire-Engines on Boats: some questions
I don’t recall any mention of how it works in the books, but I have often thought of it as a glorified steam engine. The True Fire converts water to steam to drive the paddle wheel. However that’s a bit boring. Other ways I have imagined it are: The kernels of True Fire are sealed in the reaction ch...

Re: T'skrang Fire-Engines on Boats: some questions
From what I remember reading in the Serpent River book there is more to a t'skrang riverboat engine than simply starting it up with a few kernels of true fire. How they operate is a tightly held secret and and despite recovering several engines from lost ships, all the dwarf engineers in Throal have ...

Re: Map with roads etc
I don't recall seeing any such map myself. Somewhere, among all the fluff there is mention of a Trade road running the length of the Byrose River from Travar so you could add that one to your own map. From memory, its a point of contention with house K'tenshin who keep sabotaging the road. Mention o...

Re: MEANING OF "THROAL"
While this doesn’t exactly answer your question (what the word actually means) “Throal” is the Name of the mountain range. It’s a while since I’ve read the Throal book, but it talks about the warring dwarf tribes in the Throal Mountains prior to the founding of the kingdom. So I think the city, and ...

Re: ED3/R Mad Passions
Perhaps I've missed something, but I'm a bit stumped on something and it's bothered me for a bit. Could be I'm just over-thinking it or just have missed it, or perhaps it's in novels I've not read. Why/how did the passions go mad? Just "The Scourge" with no explanation makes me just wonde...

Re: Distributing goodies
I understand that Earthdawn is *not* D&D, that there is absolutely no "guideline" to distributing loot. I am aware that some GM's keep their players ass broke while others give them bountiful piles of gold. It all depends on the setting. However, as said above, this is my first time G...

Re: Basic pronunciation question
Not sure, but I pronounce it Kerr, Kair or Care (all sound the same (ish)).
The Welsh language has the word Caer which means Fortress, which is where I always imagined the word Kaer comes from, but that could just be a coincidence. Caer is pronounced Kay-yer.

Re: Beastform question [ED3]
Good question. I think you could argue in circles for hours on the subject if you were in the mood. Durability is specific to the Discipline and not linked to a Physical or Mental Attribute as the other talents tend to be to determine a Step Number. So the question is one of, is the mouse still a (i...

Re: Combat Questions
Interesting ideas you have there, swapping initiative might work if your characters are leaders or command character, directing the actions of others. That’s one that needs play tested, it could even work within a small group if the players agree one of them is the groups leader.. I’ve been coming u...
