Re: Annoying Plant Feast

1% seems to low to me, personally. If you go off my population/distribution estimates - which may not be correct in the first place - you're talking about ~5,500 total Adepts alive, with ~550 per Discipline. Let's assume that most Adepts are noble, so maybe only 10% turn to a life of crime, bringing...

Re: Destroying a pattern item

Extra side notes: (1) If your player attempts to say they keep a constant vigil out for pattern items, and you're allowing pattern item identification via Thread Sight, just tack on a Strain cost, a la Astral Sight, and that'll nip that in the bud while being perfectly reasonable. (2) Your player ma...

Re: Destroying a pattern item

I'm not sure the player's process makes sense. First, how is the player determining that his/her items became a pattern item? Are you telling them? If so, easy solution: stop. After all, it's not like an Adept has some spidey senses that tells them a pattern item attached to their pattern has popped...

Re: Annoying Plant Feast

First, I think a solid question a GM needs to answer is "how prevalent are Adepts in my ED universe?" It's a very complicated question, but it goes to the heart of your issue with the spell. Here's a math-heavy potential solution to this question. I don't have the source handy, but there's...

Re: Handling large groups with iffy attendance

I think one of the blogs on the main site covers a recommended process for fleshing out an original adventure. As part of the post, it covers the idea of obstacles as things to be overcome rather than specifically encounters to be beaten in a specific way (e.g., talking your way past a combat). More...

Update to old material

I've mentioned this a couple times with my gaming group, figured I'd bring it up here: Has the idea been floated of publishing addendum for old story/campaign material to update NPCs/items/difficulties/etc to ED4 compliance? I know that the design team is on the hook for the existing promised source...

Re: Enchanting

From a Designer perspective, I'm curious if Enchanting was ever really a major focus space. Looking at the older material, it feels like the system changed VERY little over time, just with nudges to difficulty base and modifiers to (generally) make it more difficult with new game editions. I can und...

Re: Handling large groups with iffy attendance

More thoughts on the attendance thing: There are enough people in my core group that we'd LIKELY have what amounts to an ED holy trinity (caster, tank, face). However, there's always a risk that we DON'T and one of the trinity ends up with the 80%-ers or, Passions forbid, the Strangler. In the latte...

Re: Handling large groups with iffy attendance

Kinda off on a tangent - not that that's a bad thing, per se. Non-Adepts with half-magic could be an interesting concept for an entire campaign, but I'm personally not sure that they could be used as player characters in the same sessions with Adept player characters. The power level between the two...

Re: Handling large groups with iffy attendance

Thanks for the link, Telarus. I think the 'open table' idea solves *A* problem (allowing for regular gameplay by mostly generalizing the campaign) but not necessarily *THIS* problem (core group following a long-term campaign plus players with erratic attendance). It's interesting that, at the very e...
