so despite not getting it as a full talent, Thieves can use half-magic for using it until Second Circle, and it helps out Scouts who may not wish to take Detect Trap as a talent option. Detect Trap Skill/Talent (or Half-magic) also gives you pretty specific information @ each of the success levels ...

I tend to view Tue Earth and True Water as pretty Common, with Fire and Air being Uncommon and Wood being Rare (to use crude Magic:the Gathering terms). I base this on the in-game price for kernels, and how available it would be for local Adepts to gather.
