Re: Laser STR limit
Fair point. Perhaps this is inconsistent. I tried to design an optional recoil rule that didn't require the addition of new stats or the like in the game, but used what was already there in a new and interesting way. I think it works for recoil in projectile weapons - but that other weapons (due to...

Re: Laser STR limit
Yes, of course. But this is a technical stat that ties in to the recoil rules etc. You could definitelly argue that a character with an actual STR 0 would be lame and bedridden. However, if we set the laser STR to 1, the recoil quickly builds up, which is a little silly for a "strong-beam flas...

Ranged combat fighting styles
Do you rule that the Ranged Combat styles of Phoenix Rifle Corp Training and Pistola can *only* be used with rifles and pistols (respectively? Certain of the manoeuvres associated with them seem to expressly mention weapon types but some (i.e. Instinct Shot, Roll & Shoot and Run and Gun) dictate...

Re: Laser STR limit
The STR rating is zero because firing a laser is basically the same as switching on a flash light :) A laser beam is nothing but concentrated light, so there is no recoil. Arguably you need *some* strength to lift the weapon and hold it steady while firing though? These are (in the case of rifles c...

Re: Success Rate
And really it doesn't hurt your game to throw out a +1 to the roll on a whim. +1 on a D20 roll doesn't really start to shift the odds in any real way unless the character is just terrible at that skill. There's no shortage of reasons to to give players a little help. Slaver trying to intimidate som...

Re: Success Rate
pepper the game with a number of tests that have bonuses, usually for non-dramatic,t not crucial rolls. One thing that I think gets overlooked is applying bonuses and penalties to rolls. As a GM I often fall into a lull when describing things but don't think about what things are in the scene that ...

Re: Success Rate
Having run RT for sometime before picking up FS again I'd suggest that, while the probability mechanics may be similar, in RT (in fact this applies to all the WartyK rpgs) new PCs do tend to be "subject specialists" and have very tight focuses. This isn't such an issue in FS. Not to say th...
