Re: Combat options
For something closer to that, maybe modify what being Stunned means to you. Eg, not Knocked Out, but.. just... stunned. Dazed. I'd suggest a more Taunt-like effect (eg, penalties to their rolls for the next turn, or perhaps a number of turns equal to the number of Successes) - but that might have p...

Re: New Setting/RPG
I have long felt that the core mechanic is pretty robust, and able to handle more than just Earthdawn. As FWD says just above, 1879 uses the "Core Step" mechanic, as will the upcoming Demonworld RPG. Just before GenCon it was joked that, given the work done to adapt the mechanics to 1879, ...

Re: Were Brithans and Shadowmants weaker before?
Yes. Both the brithan and shadowmant are tougher than they were in prior editions. Before, they were considered "Circle 2" challenge, but are now both "Circle 5" The stats for them in Ardanyan's Revenge are the same as the stats given in the ED3 GM Guide, which are mostly similar...

Re: Mists of Betrayal (Revised)?
I took a quick look through the "Revised" edition (which was technically post-ED3 but before ED4) and compared it to the original ED1 version. Basically, it looks like the challenges have (in general) been scaled back compared to the original. For example, instead of 2 jehuthra in the init...

Re: Update to old material
As somebody who was involved in updating earlier products to ED3, it isn't always as easy as it seems, and there sometimes isn't enough of a difference to make the effort worthwhile. I mean... what would people want to see updated? ED4 stats for classic adventures? Official versions of secondary and...

Re: Thread Items
Another aspect to look at when trying to make items interesting is to look at their story and how best to integrate it into the campaign. While a good item can have interesting powers, or it might have unusual manifestations, those aren't strictly necessary. Classic exmple: The Blades of Cara Fahd. ...

Re: Second (whatever) as a skill from circle 1
While you can't purchase those skills with free ranks from building the character, there isn't anything that stops a character from spending time, money, and legend on picking them up during early circles. Honestly, though, it's not a very efficient use of your resources at that point in your career...
