Group rules are towards the end of the chapter. (P. 122 "In Friendly or In Enemy Hands") should answer most of your questions.

discovering the curse is in part dependent upon what the curse is. Its not hard to figure an item is cursed when you get burned every time you grab your favorite sword shortly after weaving a thread to a new dagger. I have a character that is cursed. He is aware he's cursed, however, he is wrong about the source of the curse. As far as being healed, he hasn't researched it, its just common sense, kill the source of the curse, removes the curse. But since he is wrong about the source, well, he might be wrong abo...
